Active-assisted Extension
Instructions
Sit on a chair or edge of a bed with both knees bent at 90 degrees. Ensure you are in a comfortable and stable position.
Place your non-operated leg under the ankle of your operated leg. This will act as support and assist during the movement.
Use the opposite leg to help lift the operated leg while simultaneously contracting your quadriceps (thigh muscles) to straighten your knee.
Stop when your knee reaches a straight position and do not push further into hyperextension. The movement should be controlled and pain-free.
Hold the extended position for a few seconds, then slowly allow the knee to bend back to the starting 90-degree position with the help of your opposite leg.
Repeat the exercise 10 times with 3 sets in a day.
Tips
- Avoid any jerky movements and keep the exercise within your pain-free range.
- Aim to move from a 90-degree bend to a fully extended position (0 degrees).
